Iconic Northampton Guildhall Building Up for Sale In Northampton Town Centre.

Recently, the West Northamptonshire Council has listed a section of the iconic Guildhall building, situated in the town centre, up for sale.

This development comes from money-saving measures the council have been putting in place since 2023, transferring office staff from the modern extension of the Guildhall building into a "a modernised and progressive One Stop Shop at One Angel Square". This plan centralises more of the staff into one location, that saves both them and the taxpayers at least £350,000 per year, according to the council in a 2024 interview, when they discussed extending the changeover to early 2025.

Presently, in July 2025, the majority of the council staff have now moved into the new office location at One Angel Square. In a somewhat surreal image to see, you can find the listing of the building, built in 1992, on RightMove, where the council offers different potential uses for the building - such as a hotel, events venue, or even a restaurant.

"Due to the stature, size and location of the property, we consider the site to have a diverse range of potential uses. Such as a boutique hotel operator, an events venue, residential, restaurant, or office accommodation."

The exact pricing of the listing is not currently being made public, likely in an effort to get both a good price and a worthwhile purchaser. One thing is for certain, with a location so large, historic and central to Northampton, whoever buys it has a large burden to bear to keep the property in good condition and to keep the image of Northampton strong.

There have been a number of developments throughout the town centre in recent months.

From new student accommodation, to approval for new flats, to renovations across the market square and other streets. It's clear West Northampton Council are trying to bring Northampton into the modern age with a new clean aesthetic, variety in accommodation, and development in its commercial industry.
